lyrics
Horrid night without a star,
that hides nightmares in its veil.
Why do you tear me from my bed
and force me to wander the vale?
On the horizon, far away,
the dead lights, so beautiful,
are now my when and where.
I walk in confusion and despair,
and though I roam and wander,
in the woods deeper they fade;
I don’t know what I seek in your charms,
just lead me to some place,
or let me sleep in your arms!
What a horrible night you chose,
to bear this dreadful curse!
To offer a holocaust was your fate
from the day of your birth, it’s true.
At last, I reach an ancient church
unknown to the men's eye,
where an old oak door
as I draw nigh it opens wide.
Twelve figures watch me as I enter,
expressionless and solemn they are,
forming a circle around an altar
adorned with offerings and candles bright.
And on the table of sacrifice,
surrounded by sacrilegious signs,
a young maiden lies in distress,
bound, crying out for aid as she pines.
I can think of nothing but dread,
only terror and despair,
the high priest slowly treads
towards me with a wicked glare.
And against my will, for his delight,
he thrusts an old tool into my hand,
a farming instrument of fright.
I am no longer master of my acts,
I approach the altar with haste,
and almost with ease,
I begin to take my stance
Her eyes are beautiful, her voice divine,
I hear the cult's chants from afar,
while strange faces gaze at me,
as I relentlessly plunge
my flesh and scythe into her
It’s a complete and brutal slaughter,
as their terrible masks arise,
and towards the heavens they raise their eyes
to behold the creator’s face.
And his thunderous laughter roars,
rejoicing in the bloody prey,
as they watch the head severed clean
and thrown straight into the raging flame.
The fire restores the silence torn,
as prayers and chants cease to sound,
that filled the stagnant air, forlorn,
and sleep lays its mantle around.
Only the holy light from the sun
gracefully returns me to my bed,
dissolving the tainted mist I shun,
as I question, filled with dread:
What have I done?
