Beer

At the bar, there’s noise and rush, a crazy crowd all pushin' tight,
Mud and fish scales on the floor, it don't look pretty in this light.
Sippin’ on that fresh draft beer, just like me, they gather near,
Foam spills over, mugs all clink, laughter ringing loud and clear.

Old grandma’s coat is worn and torn, bruises dark upon her skin,
She drains her glass, then smiles sly, winkin' at the old man with those specs on him.

Peeling walls and swollen faces, brains all fogged, and bellies round,
Under frothy foam and foam again, forgotten dreams lie underground.
Life done turned its back around in this dim ol’ barroom town.

Two old boys stand to the right, been there long past closing time,
Don’t care they ain't supposed to, washin' down with crimson wine.
To the left, a tubby gray-haired guy, hacking loud and blowing hard,
I hear his lungs whistle low, dunkin’ his big plum nose in a pint glass yard.

Cigarette smoke hangs thick like clouds, folks drift in a hazy state,
Tomorrow’s troubles wait outside, but for now we just drink our fate.
