They built a house on a hill by the road
With timber and sweat, where the wildflowers grow
The farmers came down with their wagons and chains
Dragging the logs through the wind and the rain


They said, “It’s gotta stand before the fall
‘Cause the man’s comin’ back when he hears the call”
He left for the dreams in the far U.S.A.
But now he’s returnin’ to stay

The old house was burned in a fire of rage
A neighbor gone mad tore the past from the page
No walls were left, just a curtain that swayed
Now a new home stands where the ashes lay
