The Battle of Žalgiris

(Verse 1)
Disobeying the orders of Gregory XV
Not to attack baptized Lithuania.

The Teutonic Order was determined
To wipe them out with the sword.

Vytautas cunningly deceived the Templars
Sending his forces to attack their sanctuary
Concealing with this audacious action
His true intentions from the Polish/Lithuanian army.

(Verse 3)
On July 15, 1.410, near the village of Žalgiris,
Jogaila and Vytautas faced each other
With forty-five thousand men
Against fifteen thousand Teutonic Knights,
better equipped and armed.

(Verse 4)
While Vytautas longed for the face-to-face confrontation,
Jogaila prayed and placed everything in God's hands.
Vytautas launched his attack,
before the passivity of the Poles.

(Verse 5)
The Teutonic army, with three wedges, attacked the valiant Lithuanians,
who, with great human losses,
were forced to abandon the battlefield.

(Verse 6)
Seeing them flee, the Teutonic
spurred their horses with fervor.
Suddenly, Vytautas turned and attacked the cavalry.

(Verse 7)
The Teutons looked to retreat,
but they found themselves facing the Polish army commanded by Jogaila.

That July morning they met in battle:
The yellow of the sun
The green of the meadow
The red of blood

Zalgiris!!! The end of German oppression
The beginning of longed-for freedom
