lives that resist

lives that refuse...
to cross this threshold.
fear burns in their eyes,
facing the mortal shadow.
between the mud and the blood,
between heaven and the end...
there are souls still fighting,
refusing to rest!

black night, freezing wind,
death comes walking through the dark.

the reaper moves among the shadows,
searching for names to erase.
broken bodies, whispered voices,
lost prayers fading in the night.
but there's still one heartbeat left,
one more reason to fight!

the warrior rises slowly,
among the fallen made of steel.
blood is burning on his chest,
fire is burning in his eyes.
bitter earth inside his throat,
smoke and gunpowder fill his lungs.
he looks up to the heavens, grits his teeth:

through the smoke he sees the figures,
faces he thought he'd left behind.
his father and his brother call him:
“come with us... come now.”
he takes one step toward the shadows,
feels death drawing near...but a voice breaks through the silence:
“your time has not yet come!
you still have a fight to fight!”
