Echoes of youth

When the shadows stretch from the trees,
And the sunset whispers softly to the breeze,
Two fragile wings, so afraid to fly,
They close their eyes as the world passes by.
They’ve heard the call of the night and day,
But the fear inside makes them stay.
They dream of skies, of places unknown,
But they're too scared to leave what's grown.
They're afraid to grow, afraid to change,
Afraid of all the things they'll rearrange.
In the still of the night, they hide away,
Holding onto a world that fades each day.
The stars above, they shimmer and glow,
But the butterflies hide in the shadows below.
They cling to the past, too scared to see
The beauty waiting in who they could be.
They've heard the winds call them to rise,
But fear holds them under cloudy skies.
Dreams of flight, of becoming whole,
Yet they tremble at the thought of their soul.
They're afraid to grow, afraid to change,
Afraid of all the things they'll rearrange.
In the still of the night, they hide away,
Holding onto a world that fades each day.
But maybe someday, they'll spread their wings,
And face the fear that the darkness brings.
For in the unknown, they'll find their way,
