Let the Day Take Hours

[Verse 1]
You toss the paper map across the seat
A thermos rattles by your feet
The county line rolls underneath the tires
And every mile pulls us a little higher

[Chorus]
We’ve got a long way left and nowhere else to be
Two hands on the wheel, your laugh beside me
Past the grain silos, past the water tower
We’ll take the back roads, let the day take hours

[Verse 2]
A diner sign says pie and coffee
You steal my fries and call it even
The radio fades, then finds a tune
We watch the wheat fields change from green to gold

[Chorus]
We’ve got a long way left and nowhere else to be
Two hands on the wheel, your laugh beside me
Past the grain silos, past the water tower
We’ll take the back roads, let the day take hours

[Bridge]
When the next town comes, we’ll see where it leads
No need to hurry, no promise to keep
Just your jacket folded up by mine
And one more bend in the road ahead

[Final Chorus]
We’ve got a long way left and nowhere else to be
Your hand in my hand, the whole world wide and free
Past the grain silos, past the water tower
We’ll take the back roads, let the day take hours

[Outro]
One more bend, one more mile
You look over and I smile
