Scent of the past

I preserved the scents of the past.
They penetrate through every pore of the skin and reach the brain and heart.
Where I am afraid and where I sense that there is no place for fear,
Where the contours of time end
And the horizons disappear before my eyes.
Where there is no now and tomorrow
Where yesterday is a moment in infinity.
I preserved the scents of the past
They keep me in the ground like roots
Wide
Certainly
And they don't let the wind carry me.
I saved the scents
To take me back there
Where I became who
And understood where and why
With whom and how.
I saved the scents
to protect me
When all else fails.
